Are Wine Guardians worth the investment?

Yes, Wine Guardian is a reliable choice for people who take wine collecting seriously and want to protect their investment.

Wine Guardian cooling systems are built to help keep wine at the right temperature and humidity. Here's a look at what makes them a solid option.

Built for Consistency and Dependability

Wine Guardian systems are known for being tough and dependable. They're made with commercial-grade parts, which helps them run smoothly for a long time. They maintain stable temperature and humidity levels—both of which are key for storing wine properly. These units are also quiet and energy efficient. And if something goes wrong, they can often be serviced without needing to ship them back to the manufacturer.

Different Models for Different Needs

Wine Guardian offers several types of systems, each suited for different cellar setups:

Through-the-Wall

TTW units are self-contained and mount directly through the cellar wall. These units are ideal when adjacent rooms can handle the heat exhaust.

Ducted Systems

BTU Range:
3,760 to 15,680 BTH/h

Installation Level:
Handyperson/Contractor

Wine Cellar Size:
Small to Large

Ducted systems are self-contained units installed outside the wine cellar, with ductwork delivering cooled air into the space minimizing noise, allowing flexible placement, and preserving the visual appeal of the cellar.

Ducted Split Systems

BTU Range:
3,400 to 14,900 BTH/h

Installation Level:

These systems separate the evaporator (inside the cellar) and condenser (outside or in another room). This configuration offers quiet operation and flexible installation, especially when duct runs are long or space is limited.

Ductless Split Systems

BTU Range:
2,900 to 4,300 BTU/h

The founders of Air Innovations (Wine Guardian parent company), father and son Larry and Mike Wetzel

Wine Guardian History

Wine Guardian, the second company to follow Breezaire, was started by Larry Wetzel. Larry and his son Mike, then a teenager, dug their first wine cellar by hand under their 1820s farmhouse. They relied on the natural coolness and humidity from the surrounding stone and earth. From that point on, wine cellars became a regular feature in their homes.

In 1989, during a home remodel, Larry tried using a standard home air conditioner to cool the wine cellar. While this method still influences many cooling systems today, it didn’t perform well. It couldn’t maintain the ideal 55-degree temperature or the right humidity levels. It was also noisy and bulky. After checking out other available products, the Wetzels believed they could build something better. That idea led to the creation of Wine Guardian.
