This traditional home wine cellar is located in a stylish San Luis Obispo dining room and serves as a striking centerpiece yet a highly functional storage solution. It is designed with traditional sapele mahogany with a clear finish and framed sleek glass-paneled doors that easily add sophistication to the space. This custom wine cellar enhances the home's coastal charm, and the large radius tasting table creates the perfect setting for relaxed, intimate gatherings, casual tastings, or sharing a special bottle with friends.

This project was a collaboration between the interior designer, our cellar team, and the client. Starting from ID drawings, we enhanced the plan with custom features to match the collector’s storage needs and home aesthetics. The result is a one-of-a-kind cellar tailored for beauty, capacity, and everyday use.

A Shared Vision Between Designer, Builder, and Collector   

Set in the scenic hills of San Luis Obispo, this traditional home wine cellar was designed for a serious collector looking to combine refined aesthetics with full storage capability. The project began with interior plans from House of Navaro Designs & Consulting, led by Malek Navaro. Working closely with the client, Vintage Cellars brought those drawings to life while adding new features that maximized capacity and elevated functionality. Through ongoing collaboration, the team shaped a custom wine cellar that blends seamlessly into the home while serving as a dedicated space for long-term wine preservation and enjoyment.   

Designed to Showcase and Store   

The traditional home wine cellar Obispo layout includes storage for up to 1,812 bottles. It features a mix of individual bottle racking, diamond bins, angled display rows, and a cascading waterfall display for large format bottles. At the center, a radius tasting table creates a focal point and encourages use of the space beyond storage. Case shelving and built-in drawers ensure the layout is both beautiful and easy to maintain.

Materials That Reflect Comfort and Craft  

This wine cellar balances structure and softness through its material choices. Warm white oak was selected for the racking system, adding depth and natural texture. A barrel-vaulted brick ceiling and tiled floors provide a sense of tradition, while modern LED lighting brings focus to key areas. The result is a space that feels timeless but not overly formal. Built Around a Collector’s Needs  

This project was tailored to the client’s collection and how they wanted to use the room. Vintage Cellars worked from the original design concept and added features based on real-world function. Hanging glassware storage, angled display rows, and double-tiered shelving were all added during the process. The close communication between the interior designer, client, and cellar builder helped ensure that every detail made sense both visually and practically.
