Sophisticated Simplicity: A Custom Sliding Glass Door Wine Cellar in Newport Beach

This sliding glass door wine cellar was made for a sleek Newport-Coast house in exclusive Newport Beach, California. It started with an idea from the client's interior designer, then Vintage Cellars tweaked the plan to match the owner's true storage goals. As the layout grew, extra racking along the side walls was added to fit a fast-expanding wine and whiskey stash. Set beside the formal dining room, the room now shines through black glass sliders that frame the collection like art.

The cellar holds up to 1,072 bottles and blends warm white-oak cabinetry with tough matte-black metal trim. There are horizontal rods stacked four deep for standard 750-ml bottles, roomy X-bins, oak case slots, and eye-catching cork-view display pegs. A central decanting counter, topped with glass holders for stemware, serves wine lovers and party hosts alike. Mixing the racking styles keeps every bottle, cas,e and spirit easy to find while still looking polished.

More than shelves, this tailor-made cellar doubles as a show-stopping home bar. Its clean lines and natural materials reflect the home's modern aesthetic while meeting the client’s specific needs. Vintage Cellars delivered a tailored solution that blends form and function, creating a timeless addition to the home.

From Vision to Reality: A Collaborative Custom Design Process

In the heart of Newport Coast, California, a homeowner approached Vintage Cellars with a design concept created by their interior designer. This type of collaboration is a familiar starting point for the Vintage Cellars team, and it sets the foundation for exceptional, personalized results. From the very first draft, the goal was to translate the interior designer’s aesthetic into a fully functional, elegant Sliding Glass Door Wine Cellar.

As the project moved forward, the design evolved through a lot of revisions. It was shaped by ongoing discussions between the homeowner, builder, interior designer, and Vintage Cellars. The initial layout featured wine storage only on the back wall. However, once the homeowner shared details about their wine and whiskey collection, it became clear that additional capacity was needed. By adding racking to the left and right walls, the final design balanced form and function. This type of evolution is a signature part of the Vintage Cellars process, where client input directly influences the final outcome.

Smart Storage Meets Modern Style

This sliding glass door wine cellar is built to store up to 1,072 bottles, combining thoughtful storage with a clean, modern look. The racking system includes horizontal rods for 750ml bottles, stacked four deep to optimize space. Matte black metal pegs allow for cork-view presentation, adding visual interest while keeping bottles easy to access. Double-deep X-bins and white oak case storage add flexibility for large and boxed collections.

A central white oak countertop adds another layer of functionality. It offers upright storage for liquor bottles and provides a convenient space for serving or decanting, making this a true countertop wine cellar. Above, glass stemware holders complete the picture, blending form and convenience. The warm tones of unfinished white oak paired with matte black hardware create a minimalist palette that aligns perfectly with the home’s modern design.

Framed in Glass: A Wine Cellar That Becomes the Room

This custom wine cellar is placed beside the dining area, enclosed behind clear glass doors set in a matte black frame. Bottles remain visible at all times, turning the collection into a subtle yet striking feature. It brings character to the space while keeping the focus on clean design. Both practical and refined, the cellar enhances the room without calling attention to itself.

Slide the doors open, and the room changes. What was once a framed display becomes part of the space. Guests can move in and out freely, whether you're serving a bottle at dinner or just passing through. It feels natural, effortless, and well considered.

There’s a quiet simplicity to the design. Light oak brings warmth, while the black metal details ground the space. Every piece of it—the shelving, the finishes, the layout—was tailored to the home. It’s not flashy, but it stands out in the best way.
