Traditional Custom Wine Cellar with Custom Cabinetry, Overhead Racking, Tasting Table, Sink and Countertops

This exquisite, traditional wood walk-in wine cellar in Rancho Santa Fe, California was installed in the second story of the client’s home. This unique wine room was featured in the November 30, 2010 issue of The Wine Spectator article, “Small is beautiful.” The article interviews the owners of the home and discusses their wine collection, design ideas, and features, smart past wine buys, and much more.

The custom wine cellar itself gets its dramatic draw from its many interesting design elements. The room actually appears bigger than it actually is – thanks to the great design and implementation from the team at Vintage Cellars. The back wall incorporates curved corners, a great way to keep the flow and not lose storage capacity in an area that would traditionally be dead space. From the floor to waist height, individual bottle storage curves itself around the room, interrupted by custom imported European cabinetry. The individual bottle storage ends open against the entrance into the cellar, creating a fantastic view of the sides of the bottles not normally seen with this design feature.

Cellar Features

Above the individual bottle storage in each corner, there are beautifully finished all heart redwood countertop ends. LED lit high reveal display rows behind the countertop add depth and showcase the collector’s most prized bottles.

Above the individual bottle storage in each corner, there are beautifully finished all-heart redwood countertop ends. LED-lit high reveal display rows behind the countertop add depth and showcase the collector’s most prized bottles. Above, the rest of the wine cellar focuses mostly on more individual bottle storage to the ceiling. This homeowner wanted a custom wine room that looked fantastic and provided the storage space for his growing wine collection. This homeowner collected mostly “verticals,” single winery collections of continuous years and vintages, so single bottle storage for 750 ml bottles worked perfectly for his needs.

Additionally, within this rustic and traditional custom wine cellar are individual bottle storage spaces lining the ceiling. This special addition created a real sense of being surrounded by wine. The owner also had an impressive collection of vintage port, and this extra incorporated racking proved to be the perfect resting place. A small island and sink, with a marble countertop in the corner, also provide a perfect space to decant wines and share some cheese and charcuterie with friends. Wrought Iron throughout also adds to this wine room’s traditional and rustic feel.
